Real Madrid punished for fans' racist behavior

Champions League winner Real Madrid was punished by UEFA on Friday for "racist incidents" by its fans during a semifinal match against Bayern Munich after some supporters displayed a Nazi banner.
Two sections of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium — sectors 120 and 122 — will be closed for the club's first home match in the Champions League group stage next season.

"Real Madrid are obliged to display a banner with the wording 'No to Racism' in those sectors," UEFA said.

Fans displayed a banner with a Nazi symbol during Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Bayern on April 23. Madrid won the second leg 4-0 in Munich.

Madrid beat city rival Atletico Madrid 4-1 after extra time to win its 10th European title last Saturday.

It marks the latest act of racial abuse and discrimination in Spain in recent months, including two cases involving Atletico.

Without naming Spain, UEFA reminded its member federations this month to take a tougher line on racist incidents.

In March, Atletico was fined 10,000 euros ($13,600) by UEFA for incidents at a Youth League match against Manchester City. UEFA also ordered Atletico's stadium to be partially closed for its next home match in that competition.

Atletico fans were also implicated in making monkey noises at Levante midfielder Papakouly Diop during a league match this month.

Update-enabling Windows XP registry hack is great news for XP die-hards

Although Microsoft has officially stopped providing free security patches for Windows XP, millions of people haven't got the message and are still running the ancient operating system. As a result of this, there's widespread interest in figuring out ways to get patches, and last week, a registry change started circulating that appeared to reinstate Windows XP's security updates.

In spite of the end of public support, Microsoft is still developing security updates for Windows XP. There are two main demographics that benefit from these fixes. The first are the governments and large corporations that are paying Microsoft large sums of money to gain continued access to hotfixes.

The second are users of Microsoft's various embedded versions of Windows XP. These versions of the operating system are designed for things like ATMs and industrial machinery. The core parts of these operating systems are identical to those from regular, non-embedded Windows XP, and as such, patches that apply to these operating systems will tend to also work on regular Windows.

The registry change works by adding a couple of entries that would normally only be found on one of these embedded versions of Windows XP, specifically Windows Embedded POSReady 2009. POSReady is designed for point-of-service systems such as ATMs, cash registers, and self-service checkouts, but it can do much more than just run POS software; it contains most parts of Windows XP Service Pack 3, and as such, it can serve as a source of Windows XP Service Pack 3-compatible software fixes.

Windows Update sees the registry entries created by the hack and determines that the modified systems are eligible for the POSReady 2009 patches.

Another somewhat more complicated hack reinstates patches on 64-bit Windows XP. 64-bit Windows XP is, more or less, a rebranded version of Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2003 remains supported until July 14, 2015. Normally, the updates for Windows Server 2003 block installation on 64-bit Windows XP; the hack involves changing the update temporarily, so that the version check is removed, then quickly reverting the modification, so that the update's own integrity check isn't defeated.

The only Nigerian journalist with access to Boko Haram flown home to negotiate with group

Nigerian journalist, Ahmad Salkida, who previously worked for Daily Trust and Premium Times and reported extensively on Boko Haram, fled Nigeria to Dubai 2 years ago after being accused of being a Boko Haram sympathizer. He said he fled after 'his life and that of his family became endangered' after security agencies began to mistake his in-depth reporting on the terrorist group as evidence of his closeness to them. He went underground for several weeks before finally fleeing Nigeria. Salkida was perhaps the only Nigerian journalist/civilian to have access to Boko Haram, and he said at the time that he'd turned down Boko Haram's many requests for him to publish exclusive interviews and materials for them.

Anyway according to new reports, the Nigerian government flew him back home a few weeks ago to negotiate with Boko Haram on their behalf, since he's the only civilian who has allegedly seen Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and come out alive. He reportedly came back home after the Nigerian government assured him that he will not be arrested. (See his tweets). Continue...

Malaysia releases satellite data on missing jet

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — The Malaysian government on Tuesday released 45 pages of raw satellite data it used to determine the flight path of the missing jetliner, information long sought by relatives of some of the 239 people on board.
But at least one independent expert said his initial impression was that the communication logs didn't include key assumptions, algorithms and metadata needed to validate the investigation team's conclusions that the plane flew south and crashed in a remote patch of the Indian Ocean.

"It's a whole lot of stuff that is not very important to know," said Michael Exner, a satellite engineer who has been intensively researching the calculations. "There are probably two or three pages of important stuff, the rest is just noise. It doesn't add any value to our understanding."

Almost three months since it went missing en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, no trace of the jet has been found, an agonizing situation for family members stuck between grief and the faintest hope, no matter how unlikely, their loved ones might still be alive. The mystery disappearance also has nurtured speculation and wild conspiracy theories.

Several family members have been highly critical of the Malaysian government's response, accusing them of failing to release timely information or even concealing it. The government, which in the early days did release contradictory information about the plane's movements, insists it is being transparent in what has been an unprecedented situation.

An international investigation team led by Malaysia has concluded that the jet flew south after it was last spotted on Malaysian military radar about 90 minutes after takeoff and ended up in the southern Indian Ocean off western Australia. This conclusion is based on complex calculations derived in part from hourly transmissions between the plane and a communications satellite.

Wiz Khalifa Arrested for Marijuana, Tweets Selfie From Jail

Wiz Khalifa was arrested Sunday morning after being stopped at an airport in Texas. TMZ reports that the rapper was flying from El Paso to Dallas when officials discovered a "green leafy substance" during a TSA check.
The TSA officials turned Khalifa over to local police, who told TMZ that he was holding 0.5 gram of pot. Once in jail, Khalifa began tweeting out photos of himself and promoting a hashtag campaign, #FreetTrapWiz.

"I wanna drop 28 Grams but they got me locced up," Khalifa wrote, referring to the mixtape that he's been promising as a lead-in to his new album, "Blacc Hollywood," which is expected late this summer. "Soon as I get out, the tapes comin out. Fucc that." On Friday, he had released a fresh taste of the mixtape with a take on Missy Elliot's track "The Rain."

Sunday morning's arrest was not Khalifa's first drug-oriented run-in with the law. In April 2012, he received a citation for misdemeanor marijuana possession in Nashville. The month after that, police reportedly busted him with weed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Despite the hiccup in his release plans, Khalifa continued to use his detention as an opportunity to promote his mixtape. "They're tryna figure out how many grams I had," he noted. "How ironic."

Has Dr. Dre’s drunken boast cost his company $3.2 billion?

We haven’t heard anything official about its supposed $3.2 billion purchase of Beats from Apple yet and now Billboard reports there’s a good reason for that. According to Billboard’s sources, Apple was not at all happy about a video posted by actor Tyrese Gibson where a couple of weeks ago in which Beats founder and hip-hop legend Dr. Dre boasts about becoming “the first billionaire in hip-hop.” Apple was also probably not happy to hear that Gibson said that Dre was “drunk off of Heinekens” in the video, which was posted on Gibson’s Facebook page right after news broke that Apple would be buying Beats for $3.2 billion.

While most of us found the Dre video funny, it’s pretty obvious why Apple did not — the company has long thrived with a culture of extreme secrecy and it probably took the video as a sign that the team at Beats might not be a good fit. In addition to this, Billboard says that Apple was not happy that Beats apparently leaked news about the deal well before the company was ready to make it formal.

This doesn’t mean the deal to acquire Beats is dead, of course, but it seems that Apple is rethinking the terms of an acceptable deal and doing its due diligence to make sure it’s not making a huge mistake.

Iran billionaire executed over $2.6B bank fraud

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A billionaire businessman at the heart of a $2.6 billion state bank scam, the largest fraud case since the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution, was executed Saturday, state television reported.

Authorities put Mahafarid Amir Khosravi, also known as Amir Mansour Aria, to death at Evin prison, just north of the capital, Tehran, the station reported. The report said the execution came after Iran's Supreme Court upheld his death sentence.

Khosravi's lawyer, Gholam Ali Riahi, was quoted by news website khabaronline.ir as saying that his client was put to death without any notice.

"I had not been informed about execution of my client," Riahi said. "All the assets of my client are at the disposal of the prosecutor's office."

State officials did not immediately comment on Riahi's claim.

The fraud involved using forged documents to get credit at one of Iran's top financial institutions, Bank Saderat, to purchase assets including state-owned companies like major steel producer Khuzestan Steel Co.

Khosravi's business empire included more than 35 companies from mineral water production to a football club and meat imports from Brazil. According to Iranian media reports, the bank fraud began in 2007.

A total of 39 defendants were convicted in the case. Four received death sentences, two got life sentences and the rest received sentences of up to 25 years in prison.

MADNESS: Mortuary Attendant Had Sex With 100 Corpses Over 16 Years

A morgue attendant had sex with more than 100 corpses at the mortuary where he worked, prosecutors claimed yesterday.
Kenneth Douglas, 55, took advantage of 16 years of night shifts to abuse the women’s bodies.
He was frequently high on drink or drugs during his macabre activities, which were only discovered after police carried out DNA tests.
Douglas is already serving a prison sentence after admitting having sex with the nearly beheaded corpse of Karen Range, who was 19 when she was murdered in 1982.
But he now faces two identical charges after forensic experts in Hamilton County, Indiana analysed evidence from two women who were murdered in 1991.
Police believe the number of bodies he abused could be more than a hundred, though he claims to not remember any identities.
‘I am sure there are more [victims]. I’m certain of it,’ Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said.
‘This guy’s just a pig. I can’t explain why someone would do something like this. This is off-the-charts weird.
‘We’ll never know how many victims there are because he doesn’t know. We probably won’t ever know the scope of his abuse.
‘Frankly, it’s frightening. [When he talks to the authorities about the abuse] his numbers go from one to three or four to “a lot” to maybe over a hundred.

But now Chris Carroll, the police officer who found Tupac Shakur after his shooting in 1996, has revealed his last words.

Speaking to Vegas Seven, the officer, who was on bike patrol on the fateful evening, claims Tupac’s final words were 'F**k you', before falling unconscious forever.

Carroll retold how he had pulled Tupac from the passenger seat of the car after he was shot several times in a drive-by.

Tupac wouldn’t answer the officer’s attempts at asking who had shot him.

“And when he made that transition, he looked at me, and he’s looking right in my eyes.

Girl forced to watch her father/brother killed by Boko Haram tells her story

During her presentation, Deborah held up a paper sign reading “#BringBackMySisters” for video cameras and photographers.
“I decided to tell the world my story 15 year old Deborah Peter, a Chibok indigene who now resides in Virginia, USA, was at the Capitol Hill, D.C yesterday May 21st, where she narrated her experience in the hands of Boko Haram. Deborah was at the US congress in her capacity as a Boko haram survivor, to lend her voice to the #bringbackourgirls campaign, as members of the congress debated on how to effectively win the war against the radical Islamic sect that abducted over 200 girls in Chibok on April 14th.

Deborah told the story of how her father, a Christian pastor who had been asked to deny his faith and her brother were both killed in a singular attack on the evening of Dec 22 2011 by three members of Boko haram. She said the men shot her dad 3 times on the chest and as they deliberated on whether to kill her brother, her dad breathed his last when he heard gun shots fired at his son, Caleb.

Deborah said she was then asked her to lie in between their corpses. She laid there until the next morning when she was rescued by a local Pastor who paid for her to be transported out of the region. Sadly, the pastor who assisted her was also killed in 2013 by the sect men. Continue...

Urumqi attack kills 31 in China's Xinjiang region

Onlookers in Urumqi after blast in the market (22 May)
Explosives hurled from two vehicles which ploughed into an open market in China's troubled Xinjiang region killed 31 people on Thursday, state media reported, the deadliest act of violence in the region in years.

China called the attack in the regional capital of Urumqi a "serious violent terrorist incident" and domestic security chief Meng Jianzhu vowed to strengthen a crackdown on the "arrogance of terrorists". Ninety-four people were wounded.

China has blamed a series of knife and bomb attacks in recent months on separatist militants from Xinjiang, the traditional home of the ethnic Muslim Uighurs.
The cross-country vehicles rammed into shoppers in an open market, Xinhua news agency reported, citing witness reports. Explosives were flung out of the windows, and one of the vehicles exploded.

One witness told our Reporter,  he saw the aftermath of the blasts on his way to work. "The air was full of the smell of gunpowder and the sound of sobbing," he said. "There were simply too many (casualties), old folks who were at the morning market."

A business owner told Xinhua he had heard a dozen loud explosions at the market near Renmin Park in downtown Urumqi.

Xinjiang has been plagued by violence for years, but rights activists and exile groups say the government's own heavy handed policies in the region have sowed the seeds of unrest.

Photos posted on social media purportedly of the blast, but not verified by Reuters, showed a column of smoke and chaos at the market, with bloodied people lying on the tree-lined road near small stands selling fruit, vegetables and eggs.

"There were two vehicles that drove like crazy towards the morning market," another witness who declined to give his name told Reuters by telephone. "The market was total chaos. Hawkers and shoppers started running everywhere... it was definitely a terrorist act. I'm so angry."

Other photos showed riot police on the scene and bodies lying amid flames. Produce and debris were scattered across the street.

Dilxat Raxit, spokesman for the exiled World Uyghur Congress, said in an e-mail to Reuters that while he wasn't sure who committed the attack, he believed Beijing's policies in the region should be examined.

"The volatility of the situation and Beijing's repressive policies in the area have a direct relationship to this," Raxit said. "I urge Beijing not to use this incident as an excuse to expand repressive policies, and instead to adjust policies to ameliorate a deteriorating situation."

"TERRORISTS SWOLLEN WITH ARROGANCE"

The Xinjiang government could not be immediately reached for comment, but China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the attack "should be condemned jointly by the Chinese people and the international community".

"The Chinese government has the confidence and the ability to combat the terrorists," Hong said at a daily news briefing. "These terrorists are swollen with arrogance. Their schemes will not succeed."

Nigeria abducted girls: France's summit on Boko Haram threat

Screen grab of video released by Boko Haram showing abducted Nigerian schoolgirls (12 May 2014)
A video emerged on Monday showing about 130 of the girls wearing hijabs and reciting Koranic verses
France is to host a security summit on the threat from Boko Haram Islamists, after they abducted more than 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria in April.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and other West African leaders will attend the talks in Paris.

On Friday Mr Jonathan was due to visit the north-eastern town of Chibok, where the girls were seized, but called it off for for security reasons.

He has ruled out negotiations over their possible release, reports say.

On Thursday, relatives of the girls called for their unconditional release by Boko Haram.

This came three days after Boko Haram released a video showing more than 100 of the girls and offering an exchange for prisoners.

'Fresh strategies'
French President Francois Hollande is expected to open the summit later on Saturday.
The leaders of Nigeria's neighbours - Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Chad - are scheduled to attend the talks, which will also include representatives from the UK, US and EU.

A statement said delegates at the meeting will "discuss fresh strategies for dealing with the security threat posed by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in West and Central Africa".
